José Millo, a life in flowers

In the morning, the hive buzzing merrily and customers make their honey from the infinite variety of flowers that are offered.

Already very small and darling of the house, José capered among the vases and pots, along with his father, flower grower and supplier of the brand which would become - who would have imagined - the ownership and passion of his son. It was in the forties. The house was founded in 1920 by Charles and Ewyane Fleuriot. In 1983, José Millo - who took over the family greenhouses, now in the hands of his own son - bought Fleuriot, with three associates. From a minority shareholder, he became, in 1992, CEO and sole owner of the brand. The investment is total. José Millo wastes neither time nor energy to develop and modernize the two stores, now numbering three, and stimulate a team that currently has about fifty employees skilled and motivated, among whom 80 % of women.

José Millo is a conductor, his baton is gentle and aims to write a warm score. Every morning, he shakes hands with his employees that he knows each of the names. The door to his office, still remains open. The director loves contact. Human relations, in his view, are not a simple formula.

Beware though, José Millo is Aries ! Nice and accommodating in its stores, it can also show a fighting spirit and tenacity when it considers within its rights. So he has took from the DTP, after four and a half years of combat and 12 projects by architects, the authorization to construct a canopy at the rear of the Corraterie.

Nothing alter his determination or his optimism.

«My life was made of fights», said José Millo with a smile. «Trained in horticulture before joining Fleuriot, I developed the exploitation of my parents. Construct, maintain, imagining, dealing with weather, the law of the market, it shapes the character. And know all the intricacies of the branch of a florist gives me great strength. ».

José Millo possesses a rich experience acquired all alone. The training is for him an essential asset, he created, almost 20 years ago now and this is a first in Switzerland, the Ecole de fleuriste de Lullier. Currently, he gives all its vitality and strength of conviction to establish a Graduate School. Again, a battle, since the resistances within the profession are many. «Being a florist is beautiful, diverse and exciting but the future is not guaranteed. We must give young people training to ensure maximum openings. It should be remembered that in our time a young person does not intend necessarily to the same job all his life.»

This man of action concludes by admitting that his profession is the most beautiful recreation ...
